Reports
President’s Report:
President Sandy Wichelecki reported that the slate of officers for 2027 has been finalized.
President Wichelecki stated that Torrey course management is beginning preparations for the PGA Tour Sentry tournament in January 2027, with plans to increase the “divot parties” to weekly, beginning in November. This information will be communicated to the membership.
Treasurer:
Gina Menicucci reported that the bank balance is currently $34,111.27 and anticipated expenses are $2,424.36 for website maintenance. All budgets are on track for the remainder of the year.
Gina presented a proposed budget for 2027. The City access fee and SCGA dues will remain the same for 2027, so the membership renewal fee is unchanged at $185. She recommended increasing the sweeps payout amounts for next year. A motion was MSP to increase the payouts to $12, $9 and $7.
Gina distributed a pie chart illustrating the budget allocations. The chart will be shared with the membership.
Rules:
No Report
Events:
Michelle Natalier requested suggestions for members whom she might interview for the Newsletter. Also, she is seeking volunteers for upcoming CIF sectional event and the Undertow in early next year. She also mentioned organizing a possible Halloween-themed sweeps day for next year.
VP/Tournament:
In the Tournament Director’s absence, President Wichelecki
mentioned that the last scramble tournament was problematic. The slow play led to negative feedback from the course management. The thinking is to limit scramble format tournaments to a single event in the future, Sandy will discuss this with the tournament director.
Other comments included one stating that the methods used for tournament tie breaks need to be consistent with communicated rules.
Membership:
Director, Cindi Velasquez is transitioning out of her role and Sunny Jin will be her replacement. A number of Board members made suggestions for ways to more fully engage new members and President Wichelecki will pass the ideas along to the Director.
Sweeps Tee Times:
Director, Linda Holmgren stated that when members add a guest to the tee sheet, the name will stay on the list until deleted. This causes some confusion as guests are only permitted twice per year. Director Youwen Ouyang will delete the names from the roster after play.
Linda also raised the issue of dealing with ties on Ace Day and that this year tying golfers have both been invited to play in the Ace of Aces Tournament.
Sweeps Result
Director Youwen Ouyang clarified that ties are broken via the golf genius in rank order. This makes it fairly easy to determine a single winner in the case of ties for Ace Day. There was consensus that next year there will be no multiple ace winners in the case of ties.
Handicap:
Director Grace Lee reported on interactions with a member who had a surprisingly low net score. She requested to receive the new member report so that she can familiarize herself with incoming players and their handicap histories.
Web:
Web Director, Laura Borja reported that the website was recently compromised, but the issue is now resolved. She also stated that some members inadvertently become “unsubscribed” and no longer receive communications generated from our website. They need to contact Laura to get reinstated.
Also, Laura asked for topical ideas for informational articles to post on a monthly basis.
.
SCCWGA Rep:
Representative, MC Eastman, advised of the last County event for this calendar year. She also presented the slate of SDCWGA officers for 2027.
Unfinished Business:
None
New Business:
- Next Board meeting is scheduled for 1/12/2027.
- The first two play dates for 2027 are January 5 and 12. Although we have yet to receive the full calendar for 2027, we will have 37 play dates.
- President Wichelecki will include information on the pro shop member discount and timelines for “cart path only” restrictions in her next newsletter piece.
President Wichelecki closed the meeting at 2:38 PM
Respectfully submitted,
